Plastische, Ästhetische und Rekonstruktive Chirurgie

Advances in the field of plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery are made based on continuous research in this discipline. The division engages in the entire range of university research (from basic to clinical). Our research content is organized around the four pillars of plastic surgery:

  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Hand surgery
  • Cosmetic surgery
  • Burn surgery

We are highly interested in issues related to regenerative medicine and options for complex tissue replacement with a special emphasis on wound healing and aging.

    Research units

Three research units are located at our division in addition to COREMED, a joint initiative of the Medical University of Graz and JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH.

Center for Regenerative Medicine and PRECISION MEDICINE (COREMED)

Regenerative medicine is concerned with restoring the function of dysfunctional cells, tissue or organs through either stimulation of the body's own regeneration and repair processes (induced autoregeneration) or biological substitutes in the form of living cells or tissue specially grown in a lab (tissue engineering).

COREMED is active in the area of medical research and development, positioned at the interface between medicine and technology and highly oriented to the user and long-term use for society.

A new impetus in medical research and development was given by the establishment of COREMED (Center for Regenerative Medicine and Precision Medicine), which was set up by JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH and the Medical University of Graz.
